Australian Visa - Business Visits

If you need to visit Australia on business, even for a very short period of time, you will need to apply for an Australian visa. This article gives some basic details of the three types of business visa available.

There are three types of visa available for business visits to Australia. It should be noted that a business visit is NOT the same as "working" in the context of applying for an Australian visa.

The first is a Short Stay Business Visa which is suitable for a visit of less than three months. This will cover a business person for normal business meetings, negotiations and conferences and may be applied for through their chosen airline or via the internet. This is a Business Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). Alternatively, applications may be made in writing.

The second type of business visa is a Sponsored Business Visitor (short stay) Visa. In order to quality for this type of visa, a business person will need to be sponsored by a member of an Australian parliament, an authorised government agency, local mayor or other authorised organisation and the sponsor will need to guarantee that their visitor will abide by all the visa conditions including that which specifies the date by which they must leave the country.

The third business visa is a Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa. To apply for one of these, an applicant must have an approved employer as a sponsor who has an eligible position available. The employer can be an Australian or overseas company and the employee must be a foreign national with the applicable skills to fill the position. The eligible position must have been approved as a skilled occupation suitable for this program, must be full time and of a minimum salary as well as meeting various Australian laws and award requirements. However, before the employee can apply for a visa, the employer will need to apply to be a sponsor of overseas employees and nominate the job vacancies to be filled. The nomination period will be 12 months or until all the vacancies are filled, whichever is the shorter. The sponsorship will be for a period of 2 years and the visa period may be anything from 3 months to 4 years. However, if the employee wishes to change employment, he will need to find a new approved sponsor with an eligible position and re-apply for a visa.

Full details of all the above can be found on the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website.

In our next article, we will look at working in Australia as opposed to being a business visitor.

Are You Earning big time reward points from Australian Credit Cards?

As more and more people turn to using credit cards as the standard mode of payment as opposed to the traditional cash or cheque options, credit card companies are stepping over each other to capture a significant share of this part of the money market. While earlier , one had to pay hefty fees for owning a credit card, an yearly one for using it , and then of course the high interest that had to be paid up in case of late payments, today, many of these have been scrapped as credit card companies bend over backwards to acquire and retain their customers. One of the main features highlighting these changes is the emergence of Reward Credit Cards in the market. Earning rewards from credit cards has become the norm of the day as almost 60 cash back on purchases but this goes up to 5% depending upon scheme to scheme. The cash back is generally paid off at the end of the year in the form of a cheque. This is one of the most preferred ways of earning rewards from credit cards.

Reward Schemes: The consumer can accumulate points based on credit card usage. The more the usage, the more the points which can be accumulated and then used for earning rewards from the credit card. Most companies offer rewards in the form of redeemable gift or discount coupons of certain stores, entertainment coupons for meals or shows or free or discounted gasoline at select stations. Earning rewards from credit cards is the most popular rewards scheme.

Flyer Miles Schemes: Getting flyer miles is another method of earning rewards from credit cards. These schemes let the user accumulate flyer miles which become redeemable for air tickets once a certain amount of points /flyer miles are accumulated. Flyer miles are rewarded based on amount spent through the credit card over a certain period of time. This is the best credit card reward for business men who need to travel frequently, since it is only large spenders who can accumulate enough points to get any significant flyer miles.

While earning rewards from credit cards seems very tempting at first, some points do need to be kept in mind for getting the best out of credit card rewards. First of all, make sure that the card does not carry an annual fee. Secondly, earning rewards from credit cards are profitable only for people who do not let any interest charges accumulate on their cards by paying off their monthly balances on time as interest rates on these cards are higher than average.

Shopping in Australia

Shopping in Australia is a laid back experience as you'd expect from a country whose unofficial motto is 'no worries'. Except for markets and some smaller shops, prices in Australia are fixed so there's no need to bargain. You'll find most items labeled with a price tag. A 10% Goods and Services Tax applies to any purchase made in Australia.

Shopping In Sydney

Sydney's shopping outlets run the gamut from international icons such as Tiffany's to street markets and homegrown, uniquely-Australian entities such as those showcasing Aboriginal arts and crafts.

Most downtown department stores, arcades, malls and boutiques lie on George Street and around Pitt Street Mall, Castlereagh Street and King Street. Especially noteworthy is the huge, historic Queen Victoria Building (QVB) which offers many floors of shopping delights.

The suburbs have their own shopping enclaves such as Warringah Mall. Meanwhile in Newtown and Glebe you'll find intriguing shops selling an amazing range of knick knacks.

One pointer, if you're buying Aussie knick knacks, check the label. You may well find that your stuffed koala is imported from China and your authentic didgeridoo was made in Taiwan.

Shopping In Melbourne

Melbourne is now firmly ensconced as Australia's capital of fashion. Boutiques on High Street and Toorak Road among others showcase the latest collections from up and coming Aussie designers. But for that unique experience, you should head for the markets.

Melbourne offers a host of markets, the most prestigious being the Queen Victoria Market on Victoria Street. Once reserved for sales of foodstuffs, nowadays you can get almost anything there.

Shopping In Perth

With its pedestrian-friendly center, traffic-free malls, and many quaint arcades, Perth is a real shopper's delight.

Downtown Perth is home to the chain stores. They're mainly in the malls located on the parallel Hay and Murray Streets and in the labyrinth of arcades that link them. For the latest offerings by young Aussie designers, visit the Colonnade shopping center on Hay Street. If you're looking for the more main stream designer brands, head to nearby King Street.

For a more 'boutique' experience, spend some time at Subiaco, affectionately known as Subi. Here you can spend a pleasant time browsing the chic boutiques, antiques shops, art galleries, cafes and markets.

Perth's jewelers showcase creations crafted from opals, Argyle diamonds, and pearls farmed from Broome.

Perth is also a great place to pick up Aboriginal arts and crafts. King Street and Subiaco are home to some fine crafts shops such as Creative Native and Indegenart.

The Truth About Dropshipping In Australia

Dropshipping is promoted as being one of the best and easiest ways to make money selling on eBay & the internet. At least that’s what the owners of the countless dropshippers lists available on eBay & the internet want you to believe. It sounds easy, simply sign-up for a wholesaler’s dropshipping service then start advertising their products in online auctions or on your web site. People buy the products, you notify the wholesaler, pay the wholesale price & pocket the profit, without having to lift a finger.

Is that really what happens? Is it really the secret to your future financial success?

The concept of dropshipping first started in America many years ago, due to a VERY competitive wholesale market. Wholesalers were having difficulty selling their products for a decent price; so one clever person came up with the idea of drop shipping. The wholesaler would add a small premium to the wholesale price to cover the costs of extra handling of the item, and offer entrepreneurs the opportunity of selling the item for them, without having to carry any stock or deal with shipping. Once a few wholesalers started, it forced other wholesalers to do the same; otherwise they would lose their market share, and most likely go out of business. This is why dropshipping is such big business in America.

This is NOT the case in Australia, as our market is nowhere near as competitive. It’s only recently that a handful of so-called wholesalers have started to offer a dropshipping service. When you think about it, why would a wholesaler want to be bothered selling just one of a certain item, as well as packing & posting it? Obviously they wouldn’t unless they were forced to, to keep their business afloat as many are in America. Australian wholesalers don’t have to do this to stay afloat.

Many of the dropshippers in Australia aren’t actually real wholesalers (as the real wholesalers can’t be bothered wasting their time with it). Some of them may be discount stores that sell items at a discounted retail price, while others are businesses that actually buy from the real wholesalers, place a large mark up on the price and offer their services as wholesale dropshippers. In reality they are more like retailers. With the prices they charge for their products, it is exceptionally difficult for anyone to make a living by selling them on eBay. The prices for most items on eBay are already at heavily discounted retail prices, so you would be lucky to break even.

The situation with Asian dropshippers is no different, even though you would expect their prices to be cheaper. Like the Australian wholesalers, they don’t have to dropship to make very good money, but some of them have realised that they can obtain exceptionally high prices for their merchandise by offering to dropship to western countries. With labour costs being so much lower in the Asian region, it puts even more profit into the `wholesalers` pocket. I recently checked the prices of several items in a well-known Asian dropshipper’s catalogue, namely digital cameras. These cameras were selling for LESS on eBay, than the dropshipper was charging. The Canon digital camera was available from the dropshipper for $469.00, but was only selling on eBay for around $430.00. A huge $39.00 loss (plus eBay fees) for the poor person selling it, but a whopping 100% or more profit for the Asian dropshipper.

In Australia, Asia and the UK, the only people who are profiting from dropshipping are the dropshippers themselves as they don’t need to offer the same competitive prices to stay in business as is the case in the US. Due to the high cost of freight, it is pointless trying to sell items from US dropshippers to the Australian market.

Why would you want to pay someone else an over inflated price for just one item, when most wholesalers only have a minimum order of no more than $500? Some wholesalers don’t even have any minimum order quantity – you can buy one item at a time if you want! By buying directly from the wholesaler, all the extra profit is going straight into your pocket, and not to some middleman.

In summary, there is really only 3 ways to make money from drop shipping:

1. Create your own dropshippers list, & sell it to poor, unsuspecting newbies who don’t know any better – not a very ethical way to do business.

2. Create your own web site, aimed at the US market, & deal with the US dropshippers. You could also try to sell on the US eBay site, using the US dropshippers, however this may not make you much, if any money, due to the huge competition from everyone else in America doing the same thing and forcing eBay prices down.

3. Start your own business, purchasing products from Australian wholesalers, & then dropshipping them for other people - you become the dropshipper.

Sifting Through Australian Tourism Information The Easy Way

Australian tourism is a big business. Whether you contact your travel agent for help planning a trip or you get online, you will see that there is a wealth of information and websites pertaining to this topic. It can be hard to differentiate between what is good information and what is not. Most travelers also find it very difficult to ascertain what is a good deal and what is not. With so much information out there, what do you do? Do you put your trip in the hands of a travel agent and hope they book the right kind of vacation for you, or do you find an all in one resource that can simplify the process for you?

Most people spend hours learning about Australian tourism and where they would most like to spend their time. This information can come from the Internet, Australia guide books, and personal accounts from friends and family, as well as pamphlets from activities in the areas that you are interested in visiting. The research into your trip takes as much time as your trip probably will, and this does not even take into consideration how much time you will need to spend booking all of the right reservations for airfare, car rentals, lodging, and any guided tours. This is a great way to learn all you can about Australia, but it can be very time consuming and often people find that it takes too long because they would like to get started on their vacation.

The Internet is a great way to expedite the process, because you can find just about anything online. If you have found the one area of the country that you would like to go to, you can start researching different activities and sights in that area. You will need to spend a lot of time visiting individual websites that may or may not link back to one another, so you should always be taking note of where you find information so you can get back there, if needed. Again, the process will take a little while, but when you research online it is usually easier. Australian tourism is a huge subject, so you can spend a lot of time sifting through a mixture of both good and useless information.

If you want to streamline the experience, you can! This website is really easy to use and only gives you the most relevant search results, no matter what you are looking for. Unlike a typical search engine, all of the results are truly geared to what you are looking for so you don’t have to spend time sifting through one irrelevant website after another. Use this website to book the vacation of your dreams in a very short time instead of simply learning things that you may not need to know about Australian tourism.

Scuba Diving In The Great Barrier Reef - Australia

One of the world's most famous scuba diving dive sites is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The Great Barrier Reef, off the east coast of Australia is the only living organic collective on earth visible from outer space. The other is a man made structure, The Great Wall of China.

This reef is regarded as one of the wonders of the world and was declared as a World Heritage in 1981. It is the world's largest coral reef ecosystem. Being so huge, magnificent dive spots and beautiful marine life and sceneries abound.

The Great Barrier is more than 300,000 sq km in size and consists of more than 3000 reefs. Deciding where to dive in this huge diving destination can be a gigantic headache. Then again, that is a happy problem because of the many wonderful choices you have.

One of the greatest dangers to the reef, especially to the corals is the Crown of Thorns starfish. This starfish eat corals and have ravenous appetites. Vast stretches of underwater life had on many occasions been destroyed by the Crown of Thorns starfish. Do not try to save the reef by cutting up the starfish. It will not die that way, instead it multiplies just like viruses splitting themselves up to multiply their numbers.

Wreck diving is a favorite scuba diving activity. Amongst the many wrecks are Captain James Cook's ship "Endeavour". Another famous wreck is that of the HMS Pandora, which met its fate in 1791. There are about 30 shipwreck sites, most of them are opened to wreck divers.

More than 2 million people visit the reef every year spending about a billion US dollars collectively making tourism as the main pillar of the eastern Australia economy. Since tourism dollar is very important, it is vital for the Australian economy to protect the reef from destruction hence it is protected in many ways. As a form of protection, fishing is restricted in some areas and animals such as dolphins, whales, dugong (a seal look alike animal sometimes mistaken for mermaids) are protected.

For the more adventurous divers, there are dives to view shark feedings, especially the ferocious man eater, The Great White Shark. Divers are put into the water in steel cages to view these man eating sharks closed up. For non divers, there are island hopping cruises as well as whale watching cruises to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef.

Australian Terriers Make Loyal Pets

The Australian Terrier is one of the smallest of the terrier dog group. It was originally bred in Australia around 1885 as a working dog to guard mines and to tend sheep. The Australian Terrier is a healthy and hardy breed. They are long-living to 15 years or more and free of any major hereditary defects.

They have a rough-textured straight coat 2in. to 3in. long with colorings ranging from silver- or blue-black through to tan with a distinctive soft-haired topknot on their head.

The Australian Terrier is tough and cheeky, and stands 9in to 11in high. However, like many other terrier breeds, in its own mind it is a much larger dog and is quite fearless. It is energetic and loyal and will display great affection to its family. It is confident and curious, has keen hearing and eyesight and therefore makes a useful watchdog. Because it likes to please its master is can be more easily trained than some other terriers.

Unlike many other terrier breeds the Australian Terrier does not usually display aggression towards other dogs although they may chase small animals outside the home. They can occasionally display wariness towards strangers although they are not excessively suspicious. They travel well and can be somewhat easier to train than other terrier types although their training needs to be strict; their self-assured nature can make them want to follow their own ideas rather than yours!

Australian terriers make good apartment dogs. They are adaptable and will remain active indoors but will require outdoor exercise and, like all terriers, need to be walked on a leash due to their tendency to chase other animals.

The Australian Terrier sheds little or no hair and will not require clipping except perhaps around the eyes and ears when blunt-nosed scissors should be used. Regular brushing is recommended. This will stimulate natural oil secretion from the skin which will help to develop a high gloss to the coat. Clip the toenails regularly. Australian Terriers do not require washing more than once a month. More frequent washing will tend to make their tough coat go lank.

Your Australian Terrier will consider himself to be a part of your family and will be a loyal and loving companion.

Tasmania - The Australian Island State

Tasmania is Australia's island state, separated from the mainland by the 240 kilometre expanse of Bass Strait. A land of wild and beautiful landscapes, Tasmania boasts a comfortable temperate climate, quality wine and food, rich history and a leisurely, relaxed lifestyle. Tasmania is home to one of the world's 10 best beaches (Wineglass Bay), the world's best small town (Strahan) and is rated third in the world for wise management of the natural environment.

More than any other state in Australia, Tasmania enjoys four distinct seasons, each with its their own special characteristics. Both local Tasmanians and visitors enjoy the state's temperate maritime climate. Summer is a festive season when the Launceston Festivale and the Hobart Summer Festival are held. Autumn is a mellow season with calm, sunny days when the native deciduous beech trees and European trees blaze with a riot of red, orange and gold colours. Winter days are crisp and clear with a dusting of snow on mountain peaks. Spring is cool and refreshing, with gardens bursting back to life as Tasmania celebrates the Blooming Tasmania festival.

Tasmania's capital Hobart is an intriguing blend of the old and the new, a city defined by the river and sea. Hobart's maritime focus can be appreciated with a harbour cruise or drive to the top of Mt Nelson or Mt Wellington - suburbs line the Derwent River, city buildings are clustered around the historic docks and the Derwent estuary broadens into Storm Bay. Only twenty-five kilometres from Hobart is the historic town of Richmond, home to the old Richmond Gaol and part of Tasmania's early convict origins. The nearby vineyards and wineries of the Coal River Valley are home to many of Tasmania's superb cool-climate wines. Hobart is an ideal base from which to explore southern and eastern Tasmania.

Hobart has more summer daylight hours than any other Australian capital city. Tasmania is the southernmost of the eight Australian states and territories, and enjoys over 15 hours of daylight on the summer solstice (22 December). This is 2.5 more hours of daylight than Darwin (Northern Territory) receives and 1 hour more than Sydney (New South Wales) receives on the same day. Experts at the Launceston Planetarium claim that the day is even longer if twilight periods at dawn and dusk are taken into account. On the other hand, Tasmania receives less daylight than mainland Australian states and territories in winter. Hobart has around 9 hours daylight in winter, 1 hour less than Sydney and about 2.5 hours less than Darwin.

Rainfall in Tasmania varies dramatically from region to region. Hobart is Australia’s second-driest capital city after Adelaide, while on the West Coast an annual average of 2400 millimetres ensures that temperate rainforests thrive. Minimal artificial light makes Tasmania’s night sky an exceptional location for stargazing, including the wonder of the magnificent Aurora Australis.

Devonport is a diverse and interesting region, home to charming historic towns, beautiful beaches and forests, fine foods and the magnificent craggy peaks of Cradle Mountain. Cradle Mountain is a dramatic mountain peak in the northern section of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, a World Heritage Area. The mountain is one of the most popular features in the park, and is surrounded by stands of native deciduous beech trees, rainforest and alpine heathlands. Icy streams cascade down the mountainsides, and ancient pines are reflected in the still glacial lakes. The walk to the top of the mountain (1,545 metres) takes eights return. Lake St Clair is the deepest in Australia (190 metres), having been excavated by glaciers about 10,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. Towering cliffs rise sheer from the waters of the lake, in which fishing and boating are allowed.

The east coast of Tasmania is a region of agreeable contrasts - sunshine and sea, wine and wildlife, rugged cliffs and glorious beaches. A centre of fine food and wine, the area is famous for its fresh, natural produce. It is also home to a series of excellent national parks, including Douglas-Apsley National Park with majestic rivers, eucalypts and Oyster Bay pines, Freycinet National Park which is renowned as a bushwalkers' and sea kayakers' paradise, and Maria Island National Park rich in history, scenic walks and fauna. The east coast's history is told by its place names. Schouten Island and Maria Island were mapped by Dutch navigator Abel Tasman, while the Freycinet Peninsula was charted by Frenchman Nicolas Baudin. Welsh settlers named the town of Swansea, while Triabunna and Wielangta recall thousands of years of Aboriginal presence in Tasmania.

Australia Shopping And Travel Tips

A traveler to Australia might need a brief respite after arrival due to the distance it has taken to travel to the Continent. Some travelers might be groggy and feel out of sorts for a day or two because of the time differences involved, and the traveler might not be clear on what they are allowed to bring into the country and what is strictly prohibited. Plants and plant by-products require a quarantine period which might slow travelers down considerably.

The shopping hours throughout Australia are generally 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but in some locations, there are opportunities to shop on Saturday and Sunday and that choice is left up to the specific retailer. The customary enjoyment of tobacco while shopping is not tolerated in any store or restaurant and smoking on any type of public transportation or building is considered to be very unacceptable conduct.

There is a variety of transportation modes available throughout Australia. A traveler can get great bargains on bus tickets if they participate in discount card programs. There are terrific discounts for travelers with this type of membership because the discounts extend to tours at public buildings, amusement parks and arcades and many fine dining opportunities.

Visitors to Australia have free sightseeing trips that they can enjoy. While shopping Australia for many items, there are some tipping rules that will make the shopping go smoother. While dining with friends at lunch or dinner, it is customary to tip all servers and wait staff at least 10 percent of the final bill, and tip the people who help along the shopping path such as porters at hotels and taxi drivers who speed travelers to their next shopping destination.

Taking advantage of many travel discounts will be high on every travelers list. A visitor to Australia will have to be mindful of the time changes throughout the Continent that could have a direct effect on scheduling a vacation or a daily shopping excursion to other parts of the Continent that have not been visited yet. The time changes, in conjunction with the air travel fatigue, might overcome older travelers. It is always a good idea to keep the time factor, and time schedules for transportation and retail locations handy at all times.

When planning vacation trips to any foreign countries, there are many entry rules that will apply. In order to enter the Continent of Australia, travelers are required to have a valid passport on them at the point of entry, and some people run into difficulties because they do not have a visitor visa or student visa to present with the passport. The only exceptions to the two-document rule apply to natives of Australia and those that hold passports from New Zealand.

Duty-free shopping is encouraged at all major airports throughout the world. For travelers that plan to visit Australia, there are rules that apply to duty-free items that arrive with the passenger at the point of entry. Travelers must declare any foreign currencies that they enter Australia with, and remember to declare tobacco products too because there is a certain limit allowed for each person that travels. Age limits will apply to travelers who bring duty-free items into Australia too.

Australia Travel Cautionary Measures

Mildred Didrikson was voted number 10 among North American athletes of the 20th century according to ESPN in 2000. Also, in 2000, Didrikson, from Beaumont, Texas was named by CNN/Sports Illustrated as the second greatest female athlete of all time (second to the incredible Jackie Joyner Kersee).

Babe Didrikson as well as other sources claimed that she won 17 consecutive golf tournaments in 1946 and 1947. However, she didn’t actually, after winning 13 straight; she lost in the very first round in Spokane, Washington at the National Open in 1946. She conveniently erased this particular tournament when she spoke of her 17-win streak.. After her loss in Spokane, Babe won four more golf tournaments. Nevertheless, at 13 tournaments in a row for victory, Babe Didrikson Zaharias’ legend can not be denied.

Travel warnings are issued by governments and are decided based on the information they gather. They serve to inform citizens of the situation in that particular country, and whether any travel there is safe or not.

Travel to Australia is generally regarded to be safe, though things have changed lately, in keeping with the changing situation worldwide. Though Australia has not directly experienced terror attacks, the threat of one has definitely increased, with the recent blasts on the Indonesian island of Bali, which lies close to Australia and is frequented by Australian tourists. The only travel warning against Australia is from Japan, whose tourists and travelers pump in about $2.7 billion into Australia’s economy every year. This travel warning warns against the rising rate of crime, including theft and muggings, in Australia.

As regards issuing travel warnings for other countries, Australia employs a ranking system that indicates the specific country’s perceived safety situation. The rank provided to each country can be either of these options – be alert to own security, exercise caution, high degree of caution, reconsider your need to travel, do not travel, with the ‘be alert to own security’ being the least dangerous and ‘do not travel’ indicating high levels of danger.

Australians are expected to take the greatest care when traveling to countries that make up the ‘reconsider you need to travel’ and ‘do not travel’ lists. In fact, just like the names suggest, travel to these countries should be either reconsidered or avoided at all costs.

The countries that currently find a place in the ‘reconsider your need to travel’ list include Angola, Central African Republic, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Indonesia, Israel, Liberia, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Yemen.

Countries listed by Australia that are the most dangerous in general, and for Australian citizens in particular, find a place in the ‘do not travel’ list and comprise Afghanistan, Burundi, East Timor, Iraq, Ivory Coast and Somalia.

Books on Australia Traveling

There are a wide variety of travel books available for anyone who wants to gain some information before setting out for a trip to Australia. These travel books offer a range of information that includes local destinations, attractions, transportation, accommodation, facilities, various costs and other basic information.

With Australia being a popular tourist destination, most bookstores around the globe are bound to have a number of travel books on the country. These books provide prospective tourists and travelers with general and specific information about Australia. Such information normally relates to the Australia’s geography, culture, customs, society, the best time to visit the country, visa procedures and other formalities required for entering and exiting the country, information about bringing in plant or animal life, local cuisine, safety tips, etc.

Asia boom, US bust buffeting Australian economy

SYDNEY (AFP) — Boom in Asia and bust in the United States are buffeting Australia's economy, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd warned Monday as he outlined plans to rein in inflation.

In his first major speech on the economy since his Labor party swept John Howard's conservatives out of office in November, Rudd pledged to slash government spending to produce a huge budget surplus.

The target would be a surplus of 1.5 percent of gross domestic product in the financial year to June 2009, he said -- about 18 billion dollars (15.8 billion US dollars).

At the same time, the government has vowed to honour election pledges for 31 billion dollars in tax cuts.

Rudd told business leaders at a breakfast meeting in Perth that Australia faced "conflicting economic currents."

These were: "A global economy (led by the United States) which appears to be slowing. An ongoing terms of trade boom driven by Asia Pacific economies. And significant domestic inflationary pressures at home."

Accusing the outgoing government of having allowed these pressures to build, Rudd said his five-point plan included incentives to encourage private savings while tackling skills shortages and infrastructure bottlenecks.

Rudd, who described himself as a fiscal conservative during the election campaign, said producing the budget surplus -- up from the 1.0 percent target of the previous government -- would require discipline.

"That will require a determined, disciplined approach to spending and a hardline-approach to savings," adding that his "razor gang" would cut wasteful spending.

Inflation is expected to exceed the Reserve Bank of Australia's target range of 2-3 percent this year, raising the prospect of further interest rate rises by the central bank.

Rates are at an 11-year high of 6.75 percent after two 25 basis point increases last year, and the effect on mortgage-belt voters is believed to have played a part in the ouster of the previous government.

Rudd noted that the downturn in the economic outlook in the US, Europe and Japan comes as strong growth in the Asia-Pacific region is continuing to drive demand for Australia's rich mineral and energy resources.

"Over coming years, developments in China will increasingly shape both global and Australian economic conditions," he said.

"The Indian economy has become one of our fastest growing export markets and is expected to continue to post impressive rates of economic growth.

"Combined, China and India accounted for around 40 percent of Australia's export value growth in 2006-07."

This economic expansion in the region had heightened the need for careful management of the domestic economy, he said.

"And the most pressing economic challenge domestically is inflation."

The Australian Real Estate Market

Australia has led the worldwide real estate boom and enjoyed record price increases over the past three years, but as 2006 gets underway many fear that the recent success of the Australian real estate market is not sustainable.

While the Australian housing market may well face a short period of economic adjustment, there are still ways to profit from the real estate sector in Australia. Real estate investors examining the market just need to look a little further afield than Sydney!

Perth in Western Australia is one city where real estate prices remain affordable and where demand for quality accommodation to buy and rent is increasing which is creating an exciting micro property investment market opportunity ripe for exploration in 2006.

The reason for Perth’s sudden popularity from a real estate perspective springs from the fact that the city is enjoying a period of economic advancement led by a vast improvement in employment prospects. Local residents in Perth are benefiting from better paying employment and an abundance of opportunity, and the city is attracting a steady flow of inward migration as job seekers move to the city to take up offers of employment.

Historically Perth’s real estate prices have lagged well behind those of Sydney and Melbourne for example, and the average home finance sought to purchase in Perth is around 30,000 Australian dollars less than the average mortgage taken out elsewhere in Australia. The lower priced accommodation is attracting more interest from investors from across Australia as well who are all seeking a housing market with legs left to run. Furthermore the real estate sector in and around Perth is enjoying interest from international real estate investors who can see the long term prospects available.

As demand for accommodation in Perth increases as the city welcomes new residents, so the prices being charged for rental housing are on the up as well. Anyone who purchases real estate to let out in Perth right now can cash in on this boom in rental rate rises and retain their property while the predicted period of property price growth develops.

Across the rest of Australia many first time home buyers have been temporarily priced out of the housing market as property prices have exceeded affordable levels. While the market readjusts over the short term there are fears that a rental accommodation crisis is looming in some of Australia’s most popular cities such as Brisbane and Sydney. This concern is of course leading to sharp increases in rental rates being charged by landlords who are well aware of how valuable a commodity they own.

While this is an unfortunate situation for those caught in the rental trap it is a perfect situation for an investor seeking immediate returns on real estate investments in Australia. Anyone who makes a real estate investment purchase in Australia with the intention to let out that property will not only make a strong income currently but they will continue to enjoy property price growth over the longer term as the market readjusts and begins to grow again in Australia in the medium term.

And finally, if you’re interested in the real estate market down under and are not an Australian citizen, overseas buyers are free to own real estate in Australia that has been granted permission for sale to foreign purchasers; and you can rest assured that the purchase process will be straightforward because it is so well regulated in Australia.

Australia Vacation

Australia Vacation – Walk on the Wild Side!

Travel is great isn’t it? And when you get home you organize all your pictures and souvenirs. And you think, “wouldn’t it be great if I could find a beautiful Australian Flag to remember my vacation by that doesn’t cost too much to add to my whole vacation experience?” Well, I’ve found a great site that sells great looking flags for not a lot of money and their shipping is super fast – www.FlagWave.com .

Now, for vacation ideas, I highly recommend Australia! Here are a few tips and facts to help you on your way to this vacation paradise.

Money
You should not carry too much cash on you when you travel here. That said, you are not going to be able to use a credit card or write a check when you are visiting Australia. A sensible way to make sure that you have enough money is to get travelers checks. This is a way that you will be able to get what you need and then some and also have the added security of knowing that you are covered if they are lost or stolen. Australian currency is decimal with the dollar as the basic unit. There are exchange shops where you can cash in and get the local currency that you will need.

Climate
The climate is moderate and there is not as hot as some people might thing. The temperate will depend on what time of the year you are there. Usually you will find nice temperatures and a great weather pattern. You will want to bring lightweight clothing for your trip and a couple of sweaters or sweat shirts just in case.

Customs
Laws prohibit any drugs, firearms, or any other foreign objects. They have these laws to protect the wildlife and citizens of their country. Unlike some foreign countries, there is not limit on the amount of Australian cash that may be brought into or taken out of Australia.

Tipping
Unlike the United States, tipping is not expected and services charges are not automatically added to hotel and restaurants. For any special services, a tip of ten percent is good. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip, but will appreciate anything that is offered to them. Feel free to tip when you feel you’ve had great service.

Information centers
You will find local tourist information and free advice in most places in Australia. Look for the signs that have an "I" on them. This will guide you to get the information that you need. Have a great vacation!

Search Engine Submission - What To Look For When Selecting An Australian SEO Company

Every business owner I've met has been encouraged at some point to invest in a website; often convinced with hype that if their business didn’t have a website then they might as well pack their bags and retire to the social security queue.

Hype aside, this statement is basically true. Certainly, any business deemed suitable for online marketing will miss out on a flood of new business without the incorporation of a thorough online marketing strategy.

In accepting this, you may choose to have a new website developed with all the bangs and whistles. But beware; unless your site can be found amongst the millions of web pages now shown on the Internet, your time and resources have been wasted.

That's why a Search Engine Optimiser is essential in maximising your chances of online success. Search Engine Optimisation in it's simplest form is the practice of fine tuning your website to achieve the highest possible position in the search results when a person searches for information using a search engine.

In this article I will highlight the does and don'ts of selecting a credible and effective SEO company. There are a number of points to be considered when making this decision.

Including:

Q. How can I judge if the SEO Company will produce what they say?

A. In answering this question, be aware of the following when either talking to them or reading their sales pitches.

1. No reputable SEO company will submit your website to more than 30 odd major search engines and indexes. These major search engines and directories feed their search results to the million or so other so called “search engines”. Submissions to a greater number is quite unnecessary and a certain indicator of a lack of professionalism.

2. Be wary of any claim that your site will be submitted to thousands of search engines. It is more than likely that these submissions will be made to what we call FFA websites. These are not search engines at all, but rather a kind of link exchange website. As a result, your email server may be flooded by huge amounts of unwanted email. In short, stay well away from any SEO making such claims.

3. Ask any prospective SEO to detail the successes they have had with their previous clients submissions. In being aware of these successes, your confidence in the ability of the SEO to maximise your website effectiveness will increase.

Q. How can I know if these website submissions are genuinely being done?

A. Unfortunately, in reality, you can’t. Be certain to ask for a list of search engines and directories where submissions will or have been made. Any reputable SEO company will supply you with a written monthly report highlighting the search engines to which your site has been submitted, the submission dates and progress of your website rankings. If, after 3 months, your website ranking hasn’t improved then it is more than likely that optimisation isn’t occurring and even doubtful whether the promised website submissions have even been made.

Q. How long before I can reasonably expect my search engine ranking to improve?

A. Usually, as a rule of thumb most of the major search engines will take up to 3 - 4 months before they will index your website. This is not always the case. Recently, I submitted my website to the Google Directory and indexation occurred the same day. The waiting time for indexation is unpredictable, but be prepared to allow 3-4 months.

Q. Will my SEO Company notify me when a search engine has added me to their index?

A. Yes. You should be notified within days of your website being indexed and at the very least at the end of each month.

Q. How will my SEO company optimise my website for submission to the search engines and Directories?

A. Basically, a good SEO will make your website as search engine friendly as possible. This will involve changing the text and html code behind your website. Simply, when the search engine robot enters your website it finds it very easy to determine what your website is about. The correct keywords and meta tags will have been placed within your site, to ensure that the robot is able to collect and pass off information with speed and accuracy. This results in a much improved rank for your site; higher than would ever have been achieved without optimisation.

Your SEO will also optimise each page differently so that the robot will include more than one page in the search engine. For example, if the robot comes to your homepage and it has been optimised and your primary message and keywords on that page were for new tyres then you would hope that when someone uses a keyword search for “new tyres”, your website would be within the first 30 results. But on the other hand, another page of your website may be about wheel alignments. You would certainly hope that another searcher using a search phrase "wheel aligners" would get results pointing to that relevant wheel alignment page.

Your website success is completely determined by effective search engine optimisation . It is pointless investing time and resources developing a website without consideration to how your prospective clients will find you. It is no different to burning $50 notes.

I hope you have found this short article useful and that I have helped you decide on a great SEO company. Of course, there are many more things to watch out for; but you are now aware of the main ones. Keep them in mind and you will get the results you are after.

Australia Visa destination

Australia is a popular destination. Gone (or nearly) are the associations with convicts from Mother England and bars filled with muscle-bound sheep-shearers (women not allowed). Now if you ask for someone's impression of Australia they're likely to say "cosmopolitan", "outdoor living", "beaches", "scenery", "Great Barrier Reef", "sophisticated" even. However, if you want to go there, unless you are a citizen of New Zealand, you are going to need a visa or travel permit.

There are different visas depending on your reasons for wanting to go to Australia.

For social or recreational reasons including a holiday, sightseeing, visiting family and friends or other short term (less than three months) non business or work related reasons, you can apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (Visitor) or a Tourist visa or a Sponsored Family Visitor visa.

If you wish to participate in Australia's Overseas Student Program, you will need to do a registered course full-time and in order to do that, you will need a Student Visa.

For business visits of less than three months you will need a Business (Short-Stay) visa, which will permit you to visit Australia for the purposes of conferences or business meetings. If you are actually organising a business event or conference, you may need a different visa. For longer term employment in Australia, you will need to be sponsored by a company who are prepared to employ you for up to four years.

If you are between 18 and 30 and fancy working your way around Australia, you can participate in the Working Holiday Program which allows you to take up casual employment.

A visit to Australia for medical consultations or treatment requires that you have Medical Treatment Visa.

You can also get a Retirement Visa if you wish to spend some of your retirement years in Australia and a Transit Visa if you want to stop over on the way to somewhere else.

If you want to immigrate to Australia permanently, you will need to participate in the Migration Program which covers people with special skills who will contribute to the Australian economy and people who have family members already in Australia and who are prepared to sponsor them. There is also a Humanitarian Program for refugees.

If you are permanently resident in Australia but are not an Australian citizen, you will need a Resident Return Visa to allow you back in, should you leave on a temporary basis.

Each visa carries different conditions and may require additional paperwork to accompany the application. The one thing all the visas have in common, however, is that you will need to be specific about the length of your proposed stay. If you apply for a visa for three weeks but once you arrive, decide that you want to extend that to two months, you may have a problem.

It is possible that you will have to undergo a medical examination and/or chest x-ray in order to complete your visa application. This is unlikely, however, for a stay of up to 3 months, unless you already have a serious medical condition.

The best place to start for detailed information is the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs website.

The Real Facts About Australian Merino Wool

With only New Zealand as a true contender for the title of the finest merino wool in the world, Australia is proud of its merino wool heritage. For more than two hundred years, Australia has been the leading producer of the finest merino wool that can be purchased.

The Four Main Grades of Australian Merino Wool

The finest garments and products are made with the highest grades of merino wool. There are four distinctive types of merino wool and they are strong, medium, fine and superfine. Each of the sheep that are known to grow these disparate grades of merino wool are bred in order to suit a particular climatic set of circumstances.

• Fine and superfine merinos are found in the tablelands of the north and southern regions of New South Wales. Super fine merino wool creates excellent wool of brilliant colors as well as softness that can’t be beat.

• Medium merino wool giving sheep can be found in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales. These merino wool sheep are raised for their wool first and their meat second.

• Strong merino wool are found most often in South and Western Australia and often in the western region of New South Wales. This sheep produces merino wool that is heavy with thick staple lengths and wide diameter fibers.

A Variety of Merino Sheep

Since the first merino sheep arrived in Australia in the end of the 19th century, sheep farmers have been trying to perfect the very creatures that grow such a valuable fiber upon their bodies. There are many sub-species of the sheep that provide us with the merino wool we love to wear so well.

1. Poll Merino- this is a comparatively new addition to the breed of merino sheep. He is bred for the ease of handling and lack of horns on the rams.

2. The Fonthill Merino- this breed of sheep was created by crossing an American bred merino to a Saxon strain that is known for its fine wool.

3. The Boorla Merino- this strain of merino wool sheep has a long breeding season and is extremely fertile.

The Fabric You Most Want to Own

No matter what type of merino wool sheep your woolen products come from, you can be sure that you are buying the most absorbent, comfortable fabric that can be put next to your skin. You will not experience any irritation or discomfort when your merino wool products are of the fine and super fine grades of wool. Remember, there is nothing more natural than fabric made from living and breathing creatures. Don’t you want to have authentic Australian merino wool next to your skin?

Merino wool can be not only a part of your apparel; it can be part of your home furnishings to make a cozy place even warmer. You can choose from such merino wool products as blankets, throw pillows, bedding, carpeting and a host of other high quality products that will make your house more of a home.

An Overview of Australia for Travelers

Australia is a very diverse country geographically and a hot spot for tourism. If you are thinking about heading down under, here is some information on Australia.

An Overview of Australia for Travelers

Australia is its own continent, the only country in the world that can say as much. It covers roughly 3 million square miles and is about the size of the continental United States. The capital is Canberra, but Sydney is the biggest city with 4.2 million people. The climate of Australia is extremely dry inland with more temperate conditions along the coast. The population centers are primarily along the coast due to soaring temperatures inland.

Australia was originally inhabited by Aboriginal tribes. In 1770, Captain Cook claimed the land for Great Britain. In 1788, the first colony was established in New South Wales. Most of the colonists were convicted criminals from Great Britain. Gold was discovered soon thereafter and Australia became a destination for immigrants seeking fortune and a new start in life.

On the far northern coast, Australia is home to one of the amazing sites in the world. The great barrier reef is a water enthusiasts dream. With incredible plant life, the reef is world renowned as a diver’s paradise. A watchful eye is advised given the presence of the Great White Shark in the area.

Australia is a Commonwealth. The federal powers are mapped somewhat after those in the United States, but no bill of rights exists. Unlike the U.S., the individual territories retain significant authority over their own affairs.

People in Australia are called “Australians.” The country has a population of just over 20 million, and the population is growing at a rate of 1.1 percent a year. Australians ethnicity is 92 percent European, 6 percent Asian and 2 percent Aboriginal. No religion dominates, but 27 percent of Australians considered themselves Roman Catholics. Life expectancy for males is 78 years while females live to 83 on average. Literacy rates are a surprisingly low 85 percent.

Australia was often considered the forgotten country. Long distance transportation changed that designation. Now it is one of the hottest tourist destinations year in and year out.

Usually, shades such as black, charcoal grey and navy are considered to give business look. Decide which of these colors is the best neutral for your business garments. This reduces the number of shoe and accessory colors you'll need to present a powerful image.

Avoid wearing colors that bring out the negative aspect of our complexion. Do not wear pale coloured shirts like yellow or white if you are very fair with light hair, then it will wash out your facial complexion further. Choose earthy colors which will blend well with your complexion. Put efforts to warm up your face with vibrancy.

The garments have become fashion statements, so more focus is given on quality of fabrics, cuts and designs. Get the right clothing that fits right. Large retail stores are opening these days which sell branded men's garments worldwide. All these developments have contributed to the success of men's fashion clothes industry in the recent times.

Avail suits for work, high-caliber fabrics and suits that are well made.

You'll get years of wear, and always look sharp. The initial sticker-shock will turn into a better investment than a cheaper suit that doesn't wear well, and gets thrown out sooner. Choose the right collection of clothing to suit your varied occasions.

Australian vacations are very popular because you can visit this country and see a little bit of everything. Grand streams and rivers, breathtaking ocean views, and rough and rugged terrain that is full of wildlife and extreme adventures. Every area of the country offers something a little bit different, and the differences are palpable from town to town. Rv In Australia Part 2

In the first part of RV in Australia, I tried to give a sense of the country from a newly arrived road trave enthusiast's point of view.

This time I will be looking at what you can expect to find if you rent a campervan, as we call them. There are two or three National companies, like Kea or Britz that rent these, with availability in all capital cities. There range includes two to six berth vehicles, with all supplies, such as cooking utensils, dishes bedlinen etc. These are roughly equivalent to what would be supplied in a vacation apartment if you stayed for a week.

The vehicles are commonly Ford, Mazda or Volkswagen based, 4 or 6 cylinder turbodiesel with manual transmission. They include a 4x4 Land Cruiser conversion.

The daily rate for a short term rental (less than 3 weeks) varies up to $300 Australian. (AU$1=US$0.75). Longer periods are slightly less. You will pay up to $345 for a full package with full insurance cover, plus "extras" like outside table and chairs.

Even if there are only two people travelling, it is worth getting the 6-Berth for the extra space, plus no folding of seats etc.

Many smaller companies serve local areas, for instance 4x4 safaris from Perth.

The roads generally good quality on the main routes between capital cities, some of the minor routes can be less satisfactory, some still have no bitumen. A hazard on some long distance truck routes, in the Northern Territory especially, can be the Road Trains. These are large semis with two trailers. It is a good policy to keep out of their way! The drivers are very capable, but their vehicles can only be driven within their limits!

Take heed of the long distances I mentioned in the first article. Often in 40+ degrees C (105+F) the hundreds of miles of straight road with a featureless landscape, although beautiful, can be mesmerising.

Don't let all this put you off! This is a wonderful country, unlike anything you've experienced. You don't have to stray far from the big cities (Sydney 4 million Melbourne 3.5 etc). But it would be a shame if you missed it! After all, is New york City typical of the US? or London typical of England? Paris of France?

I don't think so! Give it a go!

What you choose to use as a decorating theme for the holidays should be something you like, even if some might see it as untraditional. There are many ways to go, but if you have a wish, dream, or something you love, there is no harm in incorporating that into what you like to do for decorations for the holidays. There are many who love to travel, and some who haven’t had a chance yet to take their dream vacation. I want to go to Australia very badly to visit friends I love but have yet to meet in person. I was supposed to go this year, but could not. In that spirit, I might find some Australia Christmas decoration to my décor this year around the holidays.

Some ideas for this theme are quite obvious if you know a lot about Australia. There are some animals that are native to that country, and those would make great ornaments for your tree. If you look online, you can indeed find this type of Australia Christmas decoration. Just a few of those animals you can find on ornaments would be koalas, kangaroos, the kookaburra, and a platypus, just to name a few.

You might also think of all of the things that remind you of Australia when thinking about Australia Christmas decoration. This holiday is the hottest time of the year over there, and that means Santa might be seen holding a surf board rather than a snow ball. Many families in Australia have a picnic outdoors at the beach, and you can use that theme for your Christmas. You may have snow on the ground outside, but you can pretend to be on a warm beach while inside. It might be a bit hard to pull off, but with a little imagination, you can do it.

If you really want to get some authentic Australia Christmas decoration, look online for a shop in Australia that will ship world wide, and that has Christmas décor for sale. You should think about shipping though, as it can take quite a while for things to come from across the ocean (if you are in the United States), unless you want to pay the higher first class shipping. If you don’t want to pay a lot for shipping, make your purchase early so it gets to you in time for your holiday decorating session.

Australia - A Place I Must Visit Before I Die

I have a few places on my list that I must visit before I die. Most of these places are located next to the ocean and have amazing beaches and ocean wildlife. I love the ocean and I really love surfing as well as swimming with different types of wildlife in the ocean. Another major reason to visit these locations is the truly amazing sites that can be visited which can not be duplicated anywhere else in the world. The places I must visit before I die are Italy, Hawaii, and probably the most important, Australia.

The main reason that I want to vacation in Australia is for the amazing surf that is created there. The Great Barrier Reef creates the best waves in the world for surfing. I have also been very intrigued about Australia ever since I saw the movie Point Break, and Patrick Swayze’s character dies while surfing during the “Fifty Year’s Storm”. I grew up thinking that dieing while surfing would be the best way to die, because you would die while doing something that you love. Not only does the Great Barrier Reef supply outstanding waves, it also is a habitat for an enormous amount of ocean wildlife. I could spend years snorkeling in this area trying to see all of the amazing ocean wildlife that Australia has to offer.

Australia also has amazing places to visit while you are vacationing there. The most famous building in Australia is located in Sydney, the Sydney Opera House. This famous landmark was shown in nearly every shot that was taken of the city during the 2000 Olympics. To me one of the best things about Australia, and Sydney in particular, is the tremendous amount of bed and breakfasts there are to stay in. I was looking online and I saw about twenty or thirty different bed and breakfasts, with all different types of amenities. Some of these bed and breakfasts had four star services, and others were more like apartments, where you took care of everything for yourself. I think that staying in one of these places could make your vacation in Australia that much more interesting. I'll see you in Australia!

Australia Travel For A Nurse

Like much of the rest of the world, Australia faces a shortage of skilled nurses. This has led to the practice of having overseas nurses travel to Australia to work for durations that can range from the short to the long-term. Australia nursing travel is quickly gaining popularity, with the methods followed here being replicated at other countries around the world.

Traveling to Australia as a nurse is one way of experiencing the country’s unique lifestyle and beauty. It gives one the chance to experience another culture, while earning a pay package at the same time. Taking up a nursing assignment in Australia provides one with the opportunity to really gain an in-depth understanding of Australian culture, an experience which often eludes a short-term tourist or visitor.

The procedure usually begins with the prospective traveling nurse contacting an Australian nursing agency. The initial communication normally consists of the agency attempting to establish one’s skills and interests. They then answer all the questions that one may have, including average work settings, typical workload, surrounding environment, entertainment, range of opportunities available, etc.

This is followed by the applicant having to fill out an application form along with handing over a resume. The agency then verifies if the credentials are true, dig a bit into one’s background and speak to the people provided as references. Once the candidate has passed this stage, a meeting is set up with the Nursing Director or Nursing Manager in the department where you’ll be likely to practice. If the ensuing conversation satisfies both, visa and registrations processes are set in motion, which can take anywhere between two to three months.

Some tips that can help speed up the “fitting in” process are – at all costs avoid criticism or negative comparisons of the Australian healthcare system with that of one’s own country, don’t try teaching Australian nurses their jobs, friendliness and honesty is essential. Combining these tips with sheer common sense can help make your Australian nursing travel a memorable one. You can find tons of information about traveling in Australia. You can hire a travel agent or simply log onto the Internet and find your own travel deals for free. You will find savings galore.
